Pet of the Week: Kimmy

Hi, I'm Kimmy. My black coat is silky smooth and it even has two white hearts on it - one on my neck and one on my belly. In June it will be 1 year since I've been at the shelter. I can think of no better way to celebrate than by joining a fmaily in which I am the only feline upon which to dote upon - I love to be spoiled after all! My friends at the shelter noticed I get stressed out by the presence of other animals so they gave me my own office, though I share it with my human friends. I help them type and keep their laps warm when they're on the phone. One volunteer even brings me liver treats - I love liver treats! I do not like it when dogs walk by, I must protect my office.

Once you bring me home we will have lots to catch up on. I have many stories to tell and my unique meow is endearing. I chirp and twill when I'm happy and content. I'm an indoor lady who's a little nervous around strangers. I am 11 years young and like to play with toys. Might I be a good addition to your quiet home? Come to Heart of the Valley today to meet me, Kimmy! You can also learn more about me by calling 388-9399. Adoption Counselors are available daily between 11:30AM-5:30PM.

Dog Ball 2013 "Wags to Wishes"

You are cordially invited to join us at Riverside Country Club on Friday June 7, 2013 for the Dog Ball.  Heart of the Valley’s signature event is well-heeled but never, never stuffy.  After all, the Dog Ball is no ordinary dinner-auction—it’s a real Montana celebration that has taken root as one of the best parties of the year! There’ll be a fast-paced live auction, and a selection of silent auction items that will leave you begging for more!

Peruse pet-friendly trips and getaways, explore Montana outdoor adventures, save on local services and more! During the hosted cocktail hour, there will be plenty for you to sip and nibble as you schmooze and shop the silent auction.  When it’s time for dinner, Riverside’s executive chef will serve up a fabulous buffet, full of decadent and delicious choices to tempt you!

Tickets are $150 per person and can be reserved by calling (406) 388-9399 ext. 112 or emailing amanda@heartofthevalleyshelter.org. Reservations must be received by May 24, 2013.

Passing the Torch

Serving as Executive Director of Heart of the Valley has been an incredible, fulfilling experience. When I arrived at Heart of the Valley, the organization was struggling through a transition. Now many of my goals that I hoped to accomplish have been met. The shelter is in a good place at the present, and there are solid plans for an exciting future. With the ground work for continued success established, this is an opportune time for me to pass the torch. I have offered to stay in a leadership position until July 1 to help with a smooth and seamless transition. We are now recruiting a new Executive Director who will bring stability and trust within the community for many years to come.

Animal welfare and health is at an all-time high. We have a solid core of dedicated employees with career paths and continuing education opportunities. We are recruiting and training skilled volunteers, conducting outreach and education, and offering new training programs to those who adopt shelter animals or already have family pets of their own. Community members hear our message in the news media, where coverage has been positive and frequent. We are diligently maintaining our grounds and facility and making improvements such as animal enrichment areas and a new park to commemorate the animal/human bond. The drain on reserves that so concerned me when I arrived has been arrested, cash flow is optimistic and we are reporting a positive cash balance. Animal control contracts to deal with lost animals are set for the next three to four years; our service area has been expanded in new directions.

Thanks to all of you for the opportunity to serve. It has been a pleasure to lead during my tenure and I wish everyone associated with the mission the greatest success.

Phil Rogers

Executive Director
